You actually can switch and watch other sub-channels while recording one. i.e. if you are recording channel 22.2, and this channel has subchannels of 22.1, 22.2, 22.3, 22.4 - you can watch any of those channels. But you can not record 22.2 and then switch to another station, say 54.3 .

All you have to do is split the signal. Get a dual splitter, hook one up to the box and the other to a recorder. You can watch TV on say channel 3-1 and record on 13-1. I tried it and it works. Just get the instructions on line. Really simple set up

I have a splitter and have one coax cable to my tv and one to this box. I record on the box and then I use my tv remote to get out of HDMI mode and then I can watch whatever channel I want on the TV. Just don't mess with the box's remote during recording. It's very simple and easy.

Simple answer is YES. You record one using the DVR tuner. Watch one using the TV tuner. Also, you do not need a splitter, since the DVR has an antenna in AND and an antenna out. This is basically a VCR that uses USB sticks instead of tapes. If you're old enough to remember VCRs, the you're all set.

Already answered...but add my two cents. It works 'almost' like a VCR. Will only do one thing at a time. The biggest difference is it will still record when in pause mode and assigns a 'name', albeit confusing to each recording. The USB port is very sensitive...doesn't fit tightly. It will often get 'no USB device found'. The plus is both outputs work together AVI and HDMI.

Not by JUST using one of these boxes. It is a single tuner, so can only handle one channel at a time. It's great for recording something from over the air while streaming through a device on another input though.

The short answer is no, because the unit only has one tuner. However, as digitalicecream states, if your TV has a tuner, you can use the TV tuner to watch programs while the unit is recording.

Yes, as others have said, if your TV has its own digital tuner (explained by others). Or, you can do it with a standard set-top box attached to your older TV. Yes, but you have to use your TV to watch the one channel while this box records the other.

I watch DVD or VCR or ROKU while stuff is recording on this.
I have an RCA splitter and I have done it with an HDMI splitter too.
